Injured list status

Several weeks ago, Brandon Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list with a sprained right ankle. Initially, the injury was thought to be minor, but an MRI revealed that it was a high ankle sprain. It is likely that Woodruff will spend some time in a rehab assignment before he can return to the Major Leagues.

In two starts since returning from the disabled list, Woodruff has allowed two runs in five innings. He has also struck out nine in three innings. In his last start, he pitched a quality start against the Colorado Rockies. His ERA decreased from 5.75 to 3.05. The Brewers won that game and will look to move into first place in the NL Central.

In addition to the injured list designation, Woodruff has been battling an oblique injury. His season stats are skewed because of two bad starts. In total, he has given up 51 hits in 95 innings. He has a 4.08 strikeout-to-walk ratio. He has also been a solid hitter in his career.

‘WOO’ chant

Despite being a Brewers fan for the last few years, I have never heard of this ‘Woot’ before. It seems like the clubhouse staff have been making the rounds at the ballpark for the last several months. I’m not sure how this all started, but I’d say it was a combination of the fact that Woodruff is a fan favorite and the club is in the midst of a renaissance of its own. I’ve been to a couple games since relocating from San Francisco, and have been impressed with the enthusiasm of both players and fans. Luckily, the club is on a roll as of late, with the best record in the league.

Despite a disappointing trip to the postseason, Milwaukee Brewers fans are enjoying themselves. In the first two games of the NLDS against the Atlanta Braves, the Brewers’ offense has been unable to put up any runs. The team’s run differential is a meager plus six. But, even with the ugly numbers, the law of averages says that the Brewers will score another run in this series.

On Tuesday, the Brewers’ starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff matched his career high in strikeouts, inducing 19 swings and misses in a 6-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. He also tied a career high in innings pitched, allowing three runs in 5 2/3 innings.

The Brewers entered the game in the middle of a five-game winning streak. They are atop the NL Central and have a 25-17 record. They have also been the second-best road team in MLB this season. They’ve won five of their last seven games and are inching closer to a sweep of the Giants.
